Valentine's Day Shoot

So I finally edited the pics I took for my friend Chelsea for Valentine's Day.  Most everything was her idea, and  we had a great time.  We kinda got started late in the day, and on top of that it was overcast, not ideal, but oh well, we did it still.  It was also my first time shooting a couple, ahhh that made me nervous.  I don't want to make overly lovey shots, but cute at the same time, and I have to direct them and hope that they do something magical on their own.  Haha.  Good thing me and the bf like hanging out with Chels and her man so shooting wasn't awkward, just different for me.  Well, enjoy.

Underwater Photos for the First Time

For my Digital Imagery class midterm, I wanted to try something ambitious...shooting underwater.  My idea originally was to play around with this idea of suspension and the way the body moves underwater, how it seemingly defies gravity.
I was going to rent a camera, but ended up not because it was very expensive.  Instead I went and created my own very inexpensive contraption, which I don't recommend anyone to repeat.  I was taking a risk with it, but you gotta do what you gotta do.  After the third  test of my underwater camera housing (involving transparency, lots of duct tape, and ziploc) it proved to be waterproof.  It worked, and created some interesting effects underwater.  It was difficult to use however, especially since I didn't get all of the air out.  I couldn't stay underwater very long because I kept floating back up to the top!
This project was a lot of fun for me and my model, one of my best friends; and my sister who I persuaded into helping too.  When I get some extra money, I'll be sure to invest in some real underwater housing.  Anyways, enjoy some of the pictures I took, and the "behind the scenes" ones my sister decided to take.

Pandora's Box and Randomness

Last week I finally did a photo shoot with my lovely friend Chelsea. We went to Huntington Central Park. The generator I borrowed for the soft box lights I was gonna use didn't work, so that was a bummer, but that just means I'll have to do another shoot!

This pic is of our setup in a perfect little nook in the park, we got our dressing room and everything. There was a lot of stuff to carry that's for sure.

One of the themes I had in mind was Pandora's box, where it turns from innocent curiosity into something darker and full of despair. So those are the first pictures. Chelsea and me also just had fun shooting pics together. The other ones are sort of whimsical cutesy ones, we tried an "asian/japanese" sort of shoot, but it didn't really work out, haha. Then at the end of the day-tired after shooting and changing all day-we did a circusy one. It was fun, nothing too in depth on anything, so enjoy :)

Salton Sea Scope Out

Yesterday, my significant other and me decided to take a day trip down to the Salton Sea and scope out the area for a mini photo shoot I want to do, and to find out all the cool abandoned places.

We stopped by the visitor's center, and I just put it out there bluntly to this group of elderly staff that I wanted to explore and photograph the abandoned sites around the sea and where the best spots where. They were very helpful and this one woman suggested Bombay Beach. It rang a bell in my mind, I had heard of it before and that was where we decided to head.

Arriving there, we explored a little then finally parked at the beach. There are still people living there, a mixture of abandoned houses next to those that were occupied. It was an interesting feeling being there, like walking around in only a half decayed town. But we had success, and I went on my photo frenzy. Might I also mention, thank God for Gorillapods, love it. We'd found the place I was going to shoot at, and surprisingly but then not so much, we saw another group that was doing what looked like a fashion shoot too.

Very good day, long drive out there, but it was worth it.

Elle Magazine: Keira Knightly

When I was growing up, I loved loved magazines. I'd always tear out fashion pictures and make collages from them. I loved them (magazines) for the beautiful pictures, and I still have an attachment for beautiful pictures because it defies reality.

In 7th and 8th grade a friend and me designed clothes together and I thought about being a fashion designer. Yet I look at that world now and go...nope! I'd rather photograph it. I discovered a blog, Design Scene, which is now my current addiction instead of magazines, it just cuts right to the gooood stuff, and since I haven't looked at a magazine in such a long time, it's fueling my unfed desires.I love this shoot done in Elle magazine (spring 2010) with Keira Knightly, it's soft, romantic, and some pics have a bit of playfulness to them. They're photographed by Carter Smith and I believe he did a beautiful job. Anyways, enjoy.

Photo Shoot: Locker Room

I want to do another photoshoot. I have somewhat of an idea of what I'm going to do, but need to tweak out some details. My last shoot (one that I actually set up for) was about a year ago. It was in the Cal State Long Beach art locker rooms, which are all tagged up and always changing.

I was photographing these two girls that were in my 2D art class first semester of college. They were crazy, wild, and lively and I loved that!

I have a new model, a friend that I haven't talked to in ages, and I'm super stoked for it! It probably won't happen til summer, seeing that end of the school year gets busier and busier, but that gives me more time to plan, and maybe hopefully, get a new camera. hehe.
